According to data from our suppliers, items that are made, sourced or grown right here in America are already account for about two-thirds of what Walmart spends to buy products for our U.S. stores - but there is room to do more.
It is estimated this commitment could create 1 million new American jobs, including direct manufacturing job growth of approximately 250,000, and indirect job growth of 750,000 in the support and service sectors. *

Every Day Low Cost
Purchasing products closer to the point of consumption enables procurement of the best price, highest quality products and the most reliable sourcing of goods. This effort allows Walmart to respond to the customer faster, respond to seasonal demands and mitigates risks such as currency, volatility in port delays and delivers on our sustainability goals. Sourcing U.S. goods can improve in-stock rates and sales. It's core to our strategy of lowering costs via our scale.
Walmart can play a unique role in facilitating progress for current and new suppliers. We are uniquely positioned to accelerate efforts and lead by example. We will accomplish the effort in three ways:
- Increase purchases of U.S. manufactured goods already sourced here
- Re-shore the manufacturing of goods currently sourced elsewhere
- Source new U.S. manufactured goods
Walmart is pleased with the incremental U.S. receipt growth to date.
- 1,300 categories have been analyzed for economic attractiveness
- Prioritized work plan is driving effort across top 75 categories
- Over 500 unique projects have been approved across 65 departments

- Consumer Insights have shown that Made in USA is important to our customers.
- "Made in USA" is a strong driver of purchase decisions - 2nd only to Price
- 85% of moms said it is important for a retailer to sell "Made in USA" products
- Suppliers have identified several factors that make production in the U.S. increasingly more attractive that include increasing transportation costs, wage inflation, volatility and increasing in-country demand driven by a rising middle class overseas.
- Characteristics of categories most economically feasible have accessible raw materials, highly automated production, lower labor content, high transportation costs and are impacted by seasons or trends.
- Suppliers moving quickly recognize the "first mover" advantage. Some suppliers are taking a phased in approach focusing first on assembly and ramping up over several years. For more information visit www.walmart.com/AmericanJobs.
